Prior to her time in Hobbs, Coach MacDonald's journey began at Mesalands Community College, where she rode with the rodeo team on scholarship. During her time there, she not only excelled in rodeo but also pursued a degree in animal science, demonstrating her commitment to both her sport, academic pursuits, and the industry as a whole. Sharli continued her education at Clovis Community College, before ultimately enrolling at Eastern New Mexico University, where she embarked on a path to complete her bachelor's degree in animal science.
Coach MacDonald's rodeo skills are as impressive as her academic achievements. She specialized in breakaway roping, team roping, and goat tying. In her freshman year, she achieved a remarkable top 5 ranking in the breakaway event in the Grand Canyon region, showcasing her talent and dedication to the sport.
