Bio

With a profound passion for rodeo and a deep-rooted connection to the agriculture industry, new Assistant Rodeo Coach Sharli Macdonald has dedicated much of her life to advancing both the physical capabilities of rodeo athletes and nurturing their mental toughness, and we are proud to welcome her to the Hawk family. From a young age, Coach Macdonald immersed herself in the world of agriculture, laboring on her family's ranch, where her love for both rodeo and the cattle industry blossomed and helped shape her into the Coach she is today.

Over the past decade, Macdonald honed her skills in breakaway roping, team roping, and goat tying, striving for excellence in each discipline. After graduating from high school, she seized the opportunity to compete on a rodeo scholarship with the Mesalands Community College rodeo team in Tucumcari, NM. In her freshman year, she achieved a remarkable top 5 ranking in the breakaway event in the Grand Canyon region.

While competing on the rodeo circuit, Sharli pursued a degree in animal science, becoming a vocal advocate for the program that had given her so much. Transitioning to Clovis Community College for her general education classes, she continued to excel academically and athletically. This journey eventually led them to Eastern New Mexico University, where she embarked on a path to complete a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science.

In parallel to her academic pursuits, Coach Macdonald established and managed a thriving horse training business and successfully ran a cow/calf operation over the past decade. Her extensive rodeo experience, nurtured under the mentorship of multiple coaches and within various programs, has equipped her with a broad and profound knowledge of coaching techniques and methods that resonate with college rodeo athletes.

For Coach Macdonald, the opportunity to elevate the skills and mental fortitude of rodeo athletes represents a lifelong dream realized. Her dedication to fostering lasting impacts on the lives of college athletes continues to drive her unwavering commitment to the sport she holds dear. Hawk Rodeo is in good hands with her assistance to the program.
