Howard College Lady Hawks Fall Short in a Hard-Fought Battle to Clarendon
The Howard College Lady Hawks battled hard Thursday night but came up short against the Clarendon Lady Bulldogs, falling 60-68 in a competitive conference matchup.
Howard College kept the contest close throughout, trading baskets and defensive stands with Clarendon in a tightly contested first half. The Lady Hawks trailed by just a few points at the break, with both teams showing intensity on the boards and forcing key turnovers that kept fans engaged inside the gym.
In the second half, Clarendon was able to gradually extend its lead, using a combination of pressure defense and timely scoring runs to create separation. Despite a late surge from Howard College, the Lady Bulldogs were able to hold off the comeback and seal the eight-point win.
"We didn't come out with the win but I'm happy we played hard for 40 minutes. We got in foul trouble which hurt us, but we will fix some things and look forward to our game on Monday," commented Head Coach Al Davis.
Offensively, the Lady Hawks were paced by Abrianna Lawrence, who tallied 17 on the night, adding 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Makayla Ellison also made an impact with 13 points, going 5-11 from the field and contributing 6 rebounds across the box score.
Defensively, Howard College forced 9 Clarendon turnovers, showcasing their effort on that end of the floor. Kailyn Berry chipped in with 9 points and was active on the glass with 11 rebounds.
Despite the loss, the Lady Hawks continued to compete hard, shooting 32% from the field, 31% from the three and 55% from the free throw line as a team. They also battled on the glass and shared the ball effectively with 10 assists.
The Lady Hawks will look to bounce back when they travel to Levelland on March 2 at 5:45 PM to take on South Plains College, aiming to build on the positives from tonight's effort.
