Lady Hawks Secure 30-Point Win over Western Texas Monday Night in Snyder

The Howard College Lady Hawks continued their conference win streak with a big 87-57 win over the Westerners of Western Texas College during Monday night's matchup in Snyder, Texas. 

The red and black started off with a strong 26-point opening quarter while the home team put up 13 points. In the second stanza, the Lady Hawks held the Westerners to an 8-point quarter while the visitors totaled another 27 points. 

"Every conference game is tough, especially on the road. We came out strong in the first half and built a big lead,'' stated Head Women's Basketball Coach Al Davis. 

In the third quarter, the home team put up 18 points while the Lady Hawks tallied an additional 16. The final frame saw another 18 points totaled by each team for an 87-57 final in favor of Howard College. 

Abrianna Lawrence was the leading scorer for the red and black with 18 points, going 6-9 from the field, 3-5 from the three and 3-4 from the line with seven total rebounds.

Crystal Aragon also was a key contributor for Howard College with 16 points on the evening. Aragon went 50% from the field, 66.6% from the three and 75% from the free throw line. Aragon also totaled four rebounds, three assists and two steals for the Hawks. 

Aubre Prox and Kailyn Berry also added double digits for the Lady Hawks with Prox totaling 14 and Berry adding 10. They each had one steal and Berry totaled five rebounds. 

The win over the Westerners brought the Lady Hawks to a 3-0 conference record and a 14-5 overall record, placing Howard College second in the league, right behind Clarendon College, who also holds a perfect 3-0 conference record. 

Next up for the Lady Hawks is a road trip to Odessa College Thursday, January 22 at 5:45 p.m.

"We have another tough game on the road at Odessa which they are very tough to beat at home. Our players are looking forward to the challenge. They are a good defensive team, so we have to make sure we handle their pressure on Thursday'', commented Davis.
