Game Review: Howard College Lady Hawks Season Opener Weekend

The Howard College Lady Hawks kicked off their season with a challenging road trip, facing two strong teams in Denison, Texas. In their season opener on Friday, Nov. 1, the Lady Hawks battled against Collin County Community College, currently ranked #12 in the NJCAA Polls. Despite a hard-fought effort, the Lady Hawks came up short, falling 53-70. Jah'Mareah Linville led the Hawks' offense with 12 points, shooting an impressive 50% from beyond the arc. Defensively, the Hawks put up a valiant effort, holding Collin County to 20.0% from three-point range, 37.0% overall, and forcing 18 turnovers.

The Lady Hawks had little time to rest, returning to the court on Saturday to face Grayson College. In a gritty contest, Howard College fought hard but ultimately fell 53-45. The game highlighted several encouraging signs, as Kailyn Berry delivered a standout performance, notching a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, leading the team in both categories. The Lady Hawks' defense proved formidable once again, limiting Grayson to just 25.8% shooting from the field, 25.9% from three-point range, and forcing a remarkable 25 turnovers.

The Lady Hawks will look to build on this strong defensive showing as they prepare for their home opener against Ranger College on Wednesday, Nov. 6, in Big Spring.
