Hawks Home Opener

The Howard College Hawks kicked off their home slate in dominant fashion, securing a 10-2 victory over Cisco College in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

A six-run fourth inning proved to be the difference, as the Hawks' offense erupted with clutch hitting and disciplined at-bats. Caylee Berg highlighted the frame with a two-run homer to center field, while Emma Becraft, Angelina Corral, and Mackenzie Vela each contributed run-scoring plays to extend the lead.

The bottom of the lineup played a crucial role in the win, with Bia Hitomi leading the way with three RBIs despite only one official at-bat. Corral had a strong performance at the plate, going 2-for-3, while Vela showed patience with a team-leading two walks. Overall, the Hawks' disciplined approach led to four walks in the game.

Defensively, Howard was flawless, not committing a single error. Corral was especially active in the field, recording a team-high four chances.

With contributions from throughout the lineup, including Becraft, Hitomi, and Corral combining for half of the team's eight hits, the Hawks set the tone for their home season with a well-rounded victory.

The second game saw the Hawks struggle offensively, managing just a .200 team batting average. The lone bright spot was Morgan Crandall, who provided the only run with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Infielder Ashley McMahon was a standout at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 despite the tough loss.

The Hawks will look to bounce back on February 7th when they host Murray State in another doubleheader, with games scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
