Softball Road to Regionals

As another May is upon us, another bittersweet feeling surrounds Howard College as the 2023-24 NJCAA softball regular season will officially come to an end in the next few days. The Lady Hawks wrapped up their season in late April with an incredible ceremony honoring the sophomores and the players who will be graduating or not returning next year. The Lady Hawks will have 12 players moving on to the next chapter in their lives and we certainly wish them well. But hold those tears, as this will not be the last time the Lady Hawks take to the diamond.

While the regular season may be ending, the post-season is about to kick off and Howard Softball looks forward to the Regional Tournament being held May 9th, 10th, and 11th in Lubbock, TX. The Road to Regionals, however, was paved in blood, sweat, and tears. The Hawks, by their own standards, didn't finish with a record they knew they were capable of achieving and finished 23-27, but more importantly finished 13-11 in conference play and an impressive 15-10 at home in Big Spring. Texas, especially Region 5, is notorious for having some of the fiercest competition, best players and programs, and some of the smallest margin of error to make it into the playoffs. The Region 5 gauntlet didn't stop many of our girls from having incredible seasons and amassing exceptional stats:

Amaya Foxover was 4th in the conference with a mind-blowing .490 Batting Average

Beatrice Hitomi was 4th in the conference with 14 home runs

Hitmoni, Emily Cordova, and Foxover were 3rd, 4th, and 5th in the conference with 19,17, and 16 stolen bases respectively

Angelina Aguilera was 4th in the conference with an impressive 4.43 ERA as well as 5th with 100 SO's

With numbers like these, we hope to make a big splash in the tournament.

The Lady Hawks have a much-needed bye-week where they will eagerly await the results of the final weekend of the season as that will determine who their opponents will be for the 1st round.
