Howard College Hosts Annual Everett Blackburn Rockin' Rodeo Sports Medicine Clinic
On April 11th, Howard College hosted the annual Everett Blackburn Rockin' Rodeo Sports Medicine Clinic with the Texas State Athletic Training Association (TSATA) Regional Qualifier Student Competition. For the competition, Frenship High School was first place overall, but they had already qualified in their region.
First place for our region was Midland Legacy High School, second place was Kermit High School, and third place was San Angelo Central High School. We were excited to have many attendees that have been inducted into the TSATA Hall of Honor. We honored each of our speakers with a knife and leather sheath handcrafted by an athletic trainer.
Our speakers included Jenny Corbett, Armando Adame, Jill Miller, Brad Brown, Annette Franco, Toni VanDePutte, and Mark "Buzz" Chisom. At this clinic, we award athletic trainers with the Dave Lammer's award, Jim Campbell Earned Spurs award, Dustin Lira Brown Hat award, and Everett Blackburn buckle and scholarship. Each honoring a previous Howard College athletic trainer and athletic training student. This year Jenny Corbett received the Dave Lammer's award. Brad Brown received the Jim Campbell award. Ethan Buske received the Dustin Lira hat. Koldin Averette and Zaria Smith were each awarded the Everett Blackburn Memorial Scholarship.
The Everett Blackburn Buckle award was presented to Carl Lira and his wife Patricia received a pendant as a thank you for all they have done and been through. We also took time to honor the passing of our great friend Anthony Peppers.
Thank you to John Overton and his family as well as all of the volunteers that helped this event be the success that it was. We are looking forward to next year!
