Howard College Rodeo: 2024–2025 Southwest Region Season Highlights

Howard College's rodeo team showcased determination and skill throughout the 2024–2025 National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) Southwest Region season. Competing against formidable opponents, the Hawks made notable strides, with individual athletes earning commendable placements across various events.

-Team Standings

  • Men's Team: 14th place with 865 points.

  • Women's Team: 14th place with 135 points. NIRA+1NIRA+1

-Individual Achievements

Team Roping (Heeler)

  • Jeryn Thomas Ellerd: Secured 6th place in the region with 185 points.

  • Brogan McQuay Rankin: Tied for 9th place with 150 points.

Barrel Racing

  • Katlyn Louise Barnett: Achieved a 6th-place finish at the Western Texas College Rodeo (April 3–5, 2025) with a combined time of 32.61 seconds. NIRA

Tie-Down Roping

  • Brogan McQuay Rankin: Placed 9th at the Clarendon College Rodeo (October 10–12, 2024) with a time of 19.8 seconds. NIRA+1NIRA+1

Bull Riding

  • Charles Cort McFadden: Secured 2nd place at the Frank Phillips College Rodeo (October 12–14, 2023) with a score of 159.0. NIRA+1NIRA+1

-Event Highlights

  • Frank Phillips College Rodeo (October 12–14, 2023): The men's team garnered 135 points, placing 7th overall. NIRA

  • Howard College Rodeo (April 10–12, 2025): Hosted in Big Spring, this event provided the Hawks with a platform to compete on home turf, further solidifying their presence in the region.

Under the guidance of Head Coach Justin Jenkins, Howard College's rodeo athletes have demonstrated resilience and growth throughout the season. As they reflect on their achievements, the team remains committed to building upon this foundation in future competitions.
