Howard College Men’s Basketball Secures Another Home Victory Over South Plains

The No. 6 Hawks defeated No.11 South Plains with a 91-83 final Thursday night in Big Spring, TX. 

In the opening half the Hawks came out strong with a 46-28 lead going into halftime. South Plains had a big 55-point second half to close the gap, but the home team's first half efforts saw the Texans down too far to come back fully. The red and black finished on top with a 91-83 total for the evening. 

"I thought we had a lot of different guys really step up tonight which was great to see. We really showed how versatile we can be on offense'', stated Head Men's Basketball Coach Kyle Cooper.

 Kuai Deng led the scoring efforts for the Hawks with 18 points going 6-10 from the field, 1-2 from the three and 5-6 from the line with seven rebounds and a couple assists. 

Brandon Ivery was another huge piece of the puzzle for Howard College with 17 points on the evening. Ivery went 6-17 from the field and 3-4 from the line with eight rebounds, one assist and four steals. 

Victor Yimga Moukouri also made a lot of scoring contributions with 16 points going 6-17 from the field and 4-4 from the line with 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals. 

" I was very happy with our rebounding and defense especially in the first half. Monday will be a great test for our guys, and I know they'll be ready for the challenge'' commented Cooper.

 The win over the Texans sees the Hawks at 6-1 in conference play and 19-2 overall. 

Next up for the red and black is a short road trip to Midland Monday night for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
