Men’s Basketball Mid-Season Review
As the Holidays often mark the halfway point in a school year and academic calendar, the same stands true for basketball across much of the country. December 2nd marked the last game for Men's Basketball for the first half of the season and the last game before conference play begins in January. Fall was extremely kind to our squad and The Hawks look to pick up right where they left off heading into the Spring.
Men's basketball kicked off at the start of November and they went on an incredible run right out of the gate. The Hawks would go undefeated in their first four games of the season with an average margin of victory at an incredible 24 points per game. Opening the season with three straight road games proved to be no obstacle for the Hawks as they would return for the home opener on November 7th unscathed, defeating Victoria College for that fourth win. The comforts of home would soon vanish as the Hawks would go back on the road for another brutal stretch of 6 away games. After the home opener, the Hawks would lose their next two games by a combined 10 points. Had a few things gone differently, the Hawks could have easily been 6-0. The two-game skid would quickly become a thing of the past as Howard would go on to win 7 of the next 8 and finish the first half red hot with yet another win streak standing at 6 games and counting.
The first half would conclude with the Hawks standing at an impressive 11-3 record and 5th in the WJCAC before intra-conference play. Howard is impressively undefeated at home in Big Spring, 1-1 on the road, and an equally impressive 6-2 at neutral sites. The Hawks are averaging over 80 points per game and have scored 100 points or more 3 times this season with a fourth game scoring 99 points. Howard has cracked the NJCAA Division 1 Top 25 rankings once thus far but are never far from being ranked.
Sophomore Wing, Joey Madimba leads the Hawks with an exceptional 22.9 ppg and has the high score for the year so far with a mind-blowing 38 points versus Eastern Arizona.
The season will resume on January 8th against New Mexico Military Institute and will return home on January 11th against Midland College.
